I'm going to expose my own conspiracy theory there. Feel free to consider it or not.
The reason behind the war against Iran. And there, the latest G7 provided a big clue. Here's an interesting theory:
- Trump declares war on Iran and bomb the hell out of the place.
- Iran retaliates, blocks the Hormuz strait and create a ripple effect pushing energy prices way higher internationally, affecting (except Russia) everyone, including Americans.
- Trump unilaterally removes the sanctions on Russian oil, claiming that it will stabilize energy prices while the 6 other nations of G7 say NO. Germany, France, Italy (by extensions those 3 nations also include the rest of the EU), Canada, the UK and Japan are opposed, USA is alone.
- The move doesn't stabilize anything but allows Putin (who doesn't need the strait of Hormuz for his oil transport anyway) to sell more oil at record prices in order to buy more ammunition to bomb Ukraine. Win for Putin.
So there might have been a strategy for this war after all, just not one that anyone would have expected coming from the US, the strategy being: reinforcing Russian economy -- while maintaining plausible deniability -- in an attempt to push Ukraine to surrender and weaken Europe. With allies like Trump, who needs enemies? Forcing Ukraine surrender and weakening Europe... both main objectives that Putin wants to achieve. Why am I not surprised to see Trump "facilitate" things? Maybe it would go differently if he wasn't taking orders from Moscow. It becomes more and more difficult to not see Trump as a Russian asset, isn't it? Americans are paying the energy price of Trump helping Putin, isn't that nice? But the US congress being the US congress, there's little hope to see any change in the near future. After all, they approved (or at least didn't oppose) the war on Iran. Such a great bunch of politicians you have over there. Who are they working for, really? The American people, as they should? Unlikely.
A year ago, Putin was close to declare forfeit. Today, thanks to Trump, he's back in the game. At the very least it's corruption at the highest level of US power, at the very worst, it's high treason (I'm talking about Americans being betrayed here, not just allies).
Is this sequence of events far-fetched? You decide. One thing is sure, in one fell swoop, Trump lost all of America's European allies (the little that remained that is, as Europe was already distancing itself from Washington). This is not the kind of thing nations forget.
Still 3 years of Trump to go... that will be interesting. Anyone wants to take bets on what happens next?
