Here's an American pilot who speaks a perfect French, everyday French should I say, not the academic French foreigners usually learn at school but the French that is spoken in the street day to day.

Subsequently the whole video is in French (you may have to manually select the French audio track otherwise YT will give you AI English voices which kinda defeat the purpose). You can turn the English subtitles on, which is OK but not quite 100% correct. YT auto-translate has real difficulties with day to day French. Give it academic French and it's not too bad but with standard French it struggles a lot.

There's a trick as to why this American speak a perfectly fluent French (he explains it in the video but I'm going to give the brief version in case YT screws up again). His parents are expats in France so he went to French schools from 7 to 17 (which of course really helps with the French). He learned flying on gliders in France and then went back to the US where he followed a college/military education ending up, after his promotion as fighter pilot, flying F16s then F35s. He is currently based in the UK, a personal choice to be closer to his family, which still lives in France, in the Beauce (a region of France, not far from Paris, that for some reason YT persist calling the "hump", I think it is confused with a "bosse" which can be translated with "hump" but it's not the same "O" sound as in "Beauce"...). So here we have an American born, with a French education, flying an American jet for the defense of Europe. Quite the life trajectory... Next on his agenda is to join next year the test pilot school at Edwards AFB.

I let you enjoy the rest of the video. That makes the second American I've heard speaking a fluent French without any accent -- just a very slight and very French one, from the Beauce --, Jodie Foster being the other.

And the only thing necessary for morons to triumph in our world
Is for the rest of us to naively believe that they are capable of getting better.
