So... a new Thief game...

It's VR.

I can't tell if it's set in the 2014 universe or the original trilogy's.

Stephen Russell is back.

Interesting. The little bit just at the end tells me two things. First, the main protagonist is female or at least you have the possibility to play as female because the cry of surprise at the end was clearly female -- the narrator could also be her but still she could also just be a narrator -- and second, this is Garrett's eye she grabbed, so the voice you get is clearly the original Garrett, but not all of him, a ghost or a mental imprint leftover. Hey, maybe we'll finally get to know how the original Garrett died?

And I guess the game will be centered around the relationship between this new protagonist and the mechanical eye of the old Master Thief (who is apparently deceased now and yet very talkative).

And yes, Stephen Russell is obviously back. Impossible to say what version of the universe it is based on as in both the city is called "The City" and Garrett's mechanical eye was something you could grab in one mission of Thief (2014) too -- although it was just loot with no obvious purpose. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter as Thief (2014) universe was supposed to be a far future version of the original Thief series universe (which is why people blasted it for reusing the same character names such as Garrett and Basso). Although, the way it is presented here "Nobody knows how old The City really is"  could hint at a continuation of the original universe.

The fact that the protagonist is female could hint at a continuation based on Erin's story? In which case, I don't know how I feel about it because Erin was one of the most poorly designed characters in all of the games. She could have been handled way better than they did (the whole rebel teenage girl with barely two brain cells to rub together ran very poorly and got old already in the very few early minutes of the game).

Depending on how it is handled, that might be a more interesting approach compared to Thief (2014) though. But if it's only a VR title, I doubt it will receive a large acclaim because amazingly enough (or not) VR is still something very poorly distributed among gamers (graphic cards are expensive enough as it is) so most, even long time fans, won't even play it.

Edit: Also Doc, I slightly modified your post to make use of our YT tag because, why not? :)

How did I miss this??

Oh, right. Never mind. Not important.

Anyway, if I were to guess -- and I admit that I am -- I would say that it was at least *connected* to the 2014 version. Eidos Montreal, for one thing. For another: the magpie, possibly Jenivere (sp?), at the very beginning. Also, how the player opened that picture frame, or whatever it was.

(I'm surprised Stephen Russell can even talk after the workout Skyrim put him through...but I'm happy to hear his Garrett tone back. The smooth tone, I mean, not the rough/grumpy one.)

I likely won't be playing this...if it even comes to PC...because VR is something that I will likely have a lot of trouble with. Not just the visual side of things, but also the fact that I can't justify the cost of making it happen.

So I guess the franchise is determined to shoot itself in the foot once again. Let's watch the fun, shall we? ::)

I picked up on another hint to that effect: take a look at this.  Notice anything?

Remember all the hubbub, back when Deadly Shadows was first revealed, over how they changed how the E looked in the logo?  The font being used for Legacy of Shadow is nearly identical to that of the 2014 version.  That, and the compound bow she's holding looks to be the same one from the last game.

Add that to what is happening in the world and.... goddamn, I really feel my age now.

I've been playing Hell Is Us lately and since I feel I got more out of it that I could have from this "thief" game, I'm rather OK with not knowing that it was out. Plus it's VR... I still have trouble understanding why they would develop a strictly VR game to revive that franchise.
