When do you declare a game developer officially dead?

When it keeps sprouting "new" screwed up releases to 10 years old games? But surely, no developer would be dumb enough to do that, right?

Well, look at that, Bethesda is here to save the day with their brand new Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition which only comes a year after their Fallout 4 Next Gen Edition release (you know, the one that was so screwed up that modders had to deploy tools to allow people to uninstall it. Now I guess modders will have to update their tools...) ::)

Should I also remind everyone of:

Skyrim Legendary Edition
Skyrim Special Edition
Skyrim Anniversary Edition

Of the above editions, only one was valid, the special one because at least it was switching to the 64 bits engine, so really bringing something new.

That's more than a decade worth of new Skyrim Editions that, except for one, didn't bring anything new and the one that did was only technological. It was time they switched to Fallout 4 for a change. Meanwhile, the only thing Fans have been waiting for this past 15 years was The Elder Scrolls VI, and they'll have to keep waiting because Bethesda does not wish to talk about that (possibly because it's not even a thing).

What really amazes me is that they still find people to buy their stuff, as outrageous as the pricing may be ($60 for the Anniversary Edition, $40 just for the upgrade if you already own Fallout 4 -- which is a nice way to try to force people who don't buy from the creation club to still pay).

And other developers are starting to emulate this behavior, which is even worse. Now we even have "remasters" of games barely five years old, for what other purpose than making money? It's so much easier to repackage something than actually come with anything new. >:(

Even if all the previous releases weren't enough of a clear sign to you, Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition should be the one that make you question how things are. I'm sure they already have a "Starfield Anniversary Edition" stashed somewhere. They just have to wait a bit for Starfield to get somewhat "old" enough.

Is for the rest of us to naively believe that they are capable of getting better.
