Well, this is certainly unexpected.  Interesting that it's not Thief Gold Remastered, though I assume that's actually what it is.  Also unclear on whether or not FMs would be compatible with this version of the game (though Gold and The Metal Age are better known for those, anyway).

Edit: Fitting for Thief to be the subject of the forum's 1000th post.

Well, that's certainly interesting, especially because the project (no pun intended) seems to involve Nightdive. I know them and I know their work. They did an excellent reviving job of the original System Shock bringing 1994 pixels to semi-modern graphics and controls while preserving the original intent and story, doing properly what I call a true "remake".

We need more remakes like that. there are gems of gaming that will end up being be lost to time if no one cares about giving them a lifting would it only be in the interest of bringing to new generations a taste of what games were like in our youth.

I'm shared between "remasters" and "remakes". In one case you keep the game as close to the original as possible, including graphics, so to fans it feels like the real thing but it may also fail to attract new generations interest, in the other case you go a step further and without changing the fundamentals, the story or altering too much of the gameplay, you get a product that is suitable for new generations (and sometimes even give them the idea to check the original game, when possible) but you may also piss off old timers. Tough choice.

Anyway this is certainly much better than nothing (even though I don't really have trouble running Thief Gold -- GOG version -- on my system).

PS: They introduced a lot of enhancements in System Shock 2 enhanced edition though, like complete controller support. So it depends on the intent behind a remaster. Sometimes it's more than just making the game run on new systems.

And the only thing necessary for morons to triumph in our world
Is for the rest of us to naively believe that they are capable of getting better.

Apparently, we're also getting a new campaign to go with the remaster.  More information supposedly coming November 2nd...
