I kinda like this comparison. After all this is exactly what France wanted when the Rafale was developed, a jet fighter that could perform virtually everything, from recon mission to nuclear strike. Is it 100% perfect, no, no jet is. But it's as close as we wanted it and it is being constantly improved, taking operational experience into account, (the current brawl between India and Pakistan will certainly have repercussions).

Oh and I have to put an end to the confusion: As much as the sounds of "burst of fire" is pleasing to the American ear, "rafale" in the case of the jet refers to "gust of wind" although the word "rafale" can mean both in French. It's like our long line of Mirage jets (III, IV, V and 2000) which were so fast at the time that they ended up being just that: a mirage, here now, vanished a second later. The Rafale may be not as fast in top speed as its predecessors but it's the only 4.5 generation fighter capable of supercruise (Mach 1+ without using afterburners -- in the US that would be the F22 Raptor and I think the F35 also have this capability, but both are 5th generation).

Anyway, brilliant video there that managed to make the confusing development history of the Rafale even more confusing in some ways. :D On another more personal note, I think this is certainly one of the sexiest planes currently flying, but I'm biased... obviously. XD

And the only thing necessary for morons to triumph in our world
Is for the rest of us to naively believe that they are capable of getting better.
